Confederate record shows S. H. Livingston, age 35, 4th Sergeant, 11th Texas Cavalry (Texas Confederate Index, Micro Reel # 9)

The 1850 census shows Samuel Livingston was living with his family in Hot Springs Co., Arkansas. He was 21 at the time. Deed records show he and his family moved to Cooke County, Texas, in 1852, where they settled on 320 acres on Cross Timber Creek about 15 miles east and southeast of Gainesville, Texas, not far from the Grayson Co. line. (Deed Records, Cooke Co., Texas, Vol. 4, pp. 636-38)

Note: Mary Livingston Plumlee had notes regarding Samuel Livingston - "Samuel's first wife was buried on the place settled by his father near Whitesboro in Cooke County. Called "Uncle Sam" by Mary Livingston Plumlee's grandfather. Listed with his brothers and father in their migration from Alabama to Arkansas to Texas. "Saml. H. Livingston and Mallissa K. Livingston, Wife - $800 - Sold - 160 acres - Pat No 18, Vol. 16 - 12 Sept. 1862 - Cooke Co. on the waters of Cross Timber Creek, a tributary of Trinity River about 12 1/2 degrees East from Gainesville beginning at a stake the northwest corner of Edward Cachran's survey from which . . . 3 Dec. 1862" (Deed Records 1863)

Margaret Ann Kinney Livingston (Samuel's mother) died of pneumonia in Cooke County, Texas, on October 18, 1869. She is buried in the Whitesboro Cemetary at Whitesboro, Grayson County, Texas (Cook County Probate Records, Vol. 8). Samuel died on October 11, 1869, in Cooke County, Texas and two of his brothers, Kay and James, also died in October 1869 and were buried in the Whitesboro Cemetary at Whitesboro, Grayson County, Texas. (One brother died on October 18 and one on October 29) - What a terrible month for this family!
