Jesse Livingston
Born approx. 1784 in Virginia
Died approx. 1854

Son of Samuel Livingston and Phoebe Head

When he was about 12 years old, Jesse Livingston moved with his father to East Tennessee, where he grew to manhood. He married in Tennessee about 1805 and lived there for a few years. He then moved to the south part of Morgan County, near Eva, and near the north line of Cullman County.

Jesse, along with a party of three other men, discovered Clear Creek Falls in November 1812. In late summer of 1814, Jesse returned to Clear Creek Falls and erected a log cabin about 1/2 mile from the falls. He brought his family there in the spring of 1815.

He moved to Lawrence County a few years later and lived for a while, but returned to his log cabin home. Jesse erected and put in operation at the upper falls the first grist mill (about 1828) that was ever built in the south part of what is now Winston County, and the second one in the county.
