Will of James Todd Livingston (born 1754 - died 1812)

I James Livingston of the State of South Carolina and District of Edgefield being low in health but of sound mind and memory do ordain and declare this to be my last will and Testament. Item the 1st. I give and bequeath to my son Taliaferro Livingston two negro boys Viz: Peter and John, also one feather bed and all the bed clothes Viz: Blankets, counterpains bed quilts and sheets etc., except such as are hereinafter mentioned also one negro boy Charles or such part of him as may be left from paying the debts. Also one silver watch, also one Bay filly two years old by Star.

Item the Second. I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Livingston one feather bead furniture Also one dark bay mare by Star four years old at present with foal the one half of which when brought forth to belong to John S. Glascock he paying a reasonable expense for keeping it twelve months.

Item the 3rd. I give and bequeath to my son John Livingston one feather bed.

Item the 4th. I give and bequeath to my son Muscoe Livingston the sum of ten shillings lawful money.

It is never the less to be understood that the above named negroes Peter and John in the case that neither of them should be taken for my debts or die all to remain for the use and benefit of Taliaferro Livingston until the age of eighteen years and then one of them Viz: Peter to revert to Thomas Livingston for his use and benefit and I do hereby appoint and nominate Robert Livingston and Lewis L. Hammond to be my lawful executors and in witness thereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and Seal this eighteenth day of December and in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and twelve.
