Anthony Livingston served in the War of 1812 as a private, along with Samuel and Jesse Livingston, all of whom were on a muster roll in the 16th Regiment, known as Burrus Regiment of Mississippi Militia, Mississippi Territory. (Ibid., Dunbar) He was in an infantry company under the command of Captain Stephen Griffith of Madison County, Mississippi Territory, for the defense of said county to repel an invasion of hostile Creek Indians. Anthony served one month from November 2, 1813 - December 2, 1813. (Spelled his last name as "Levinston")(National Archives, Washington, D.C.) After his marriage it is known that Anthony Livingston and his wife lived in Walker County, Alabama, as the following census records show: The United States Census, 1830, Walker County, Alabama, shows Anthony Livingston, head of household, one male, aged 40-50, one male aged 10-15, one male aged 5-10, one male aged under 5 years, one female aged 30-40, one female aged 10-15, one female age 5-10, one female under 5 years. The United States Census, 1840, Walker County, Alabama shows Anthony Livingston, head of household, with one male aged 50-60, one male aged 20-30, one male aged 15-20, one male aged 10-15, two males aged 5-10, two males under 5 years, one female aged 40-50, one female aged 15-20, one female aged 10-15 years. About 1848 Anthony Livingston moved from Alabama to Arkansas, where he was engaged in the business of farming. He and his wife and children lived in Fenton Township, Hot Springs County, Arkansas. Six of the seven children who were still at home were attending school.
The United States Census, 1850, Hot Springs County, Arkansas, shows: About 1852 they removed to Cooke County, Texas, where Anthony settled on 320 acres on Cross Timber Creek about fifteen miles east and southeast of Gainesville, Texas, not far from the Grayson County line. (Deed Records, Cooke County, Texas, Vol. 4, pages 636-638) Pre-emption certificate filed in General Land Office of Texas, Cooke County, Texas (stated Anthony Livingston was deceased) - dated January 27, 1857. Anthony's wife, Margaret Ann, sold the land in 1859, some four years after Anthony's death. She continued living in Cooke County and was listed in the Cooke County, Texas, 1860 Census. No doubt she lived there until her death in October 1869. Three sons (Samuel, Kay and James) also died in October 1869. |
